My Fabric Moment

Chiffon has always been a tricky option to have in one’s wardrobe, whether it’s the sheer price of the fabric or the actual sheerness.
Dating back to the Seventeenth Century where Croatian soldiers wore a uniform made of chiffon, lace and linen, the choice to incorporate chiffon was an unusual one. Yet it created a status which has since turned into the chiffon’s legacy. Formal and evening wear is largely associated with the material for it’s shimmer and floaty existence.
Back in 1997, the blockbuster Titanic hit the masses. And who can forget that iconic last scene, with that chiffon dress Rose wore as she escaped from the ship with Jack? Lately however, chiffon is becoming ever increasingly popular, and the A-list are picking up on the trend. Mrs Obama was seen last year at the inaugural ball wearing an asymmetric shoulder and white beaded chiffon gown designed for her especially by Jason Wu. It has since been donated to the Washington Smithsonian Museum as a part of First Lady history.
Along with the incorporation of chiffon designs in Anna Sui and Imitation’s collections for the S/S ’11 season, it doesn’t look like chiffon is going anywhere. Not bad for a fabric that’s name derives from the French for ‘rag’, is it?

Pearl and Ivy

Long gone are the days of frumpy hats, or the nightmare of turning up in the same fascinator as joe bloggs stood next to you.
But, low and behold, I've came across the ANSWER to the dilemma. Pearl and Ivy

Pearl and Ivy are two girls from Manchester who grace the Portobello road and Spitalfields markets on a weekend. These two have created individual and one-of-a-kind hairpieces made from Peacock feathers, flowers, and gold leafing. And you're not limited to a hair clip either, they also comes as elastic or traditional hairbands.

Take a look at their website for more information, at £25 you get quirkiness, quality and class.

Boot Camp

Alexander Wang had them for his A/W '10 collection and Burberry Prorsum included them for their S/S 10 collection (and we all know how popular Burberry Prorsum have been these past few seasons, ahem, aviator jackets)

I'm talking about the Chelsea Boot.

Burberry Prorsum

ASOS ALESHA

The shoe, deriving from the Victorian era, is back and in high demand. Church's, the leading shoemaker in high quality leather footwear since the 1800's is in overdrive after the recent exposure given to them from celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss.

Thankfully for me though, there are any high street versions available, so you don't have to fork out a fortune...

Miss KG £95 ASOS -tan in colour and a warm cuff around the ankle. Perfect for winter!

Dr Martens £80 -universal black and chunky, suitable for the rock chick

These are my bargain pair, grey suede, £40, New Look. Also available in dark brown.

Ted Polhemus

Ted Polhemus is an American anthropologist. He has produced books such as Streetstyle which document the different groups and identities of our culture and their relationships with each other.

Currently at The Book Club, Shoreditch, Polhemus has an exhibition of his Streetstyle ideology and book. I recommend taking some time out to visit and enjoy the exhibition, maybe with lunch there and a glass of wine :-)

This is my favourite photograph from the exhibition. A picture says a thousand words. Just because the photograph is in black and white doesn't mean it's not vibrant.

The Exclusive 10

Last night I attended the launch of Warehouse's new collection 'The Exclusive 10'
The collection is made of 10 sensationally designed pieces from the in-house team at Warehouse. They were originally created for Elite Model Look Grand Final competition but have since wound their way onto the rails. Available in selected stores across the UK, these pieces are limited edition only, so be quick to snap up yours!!
Here are a few of my faves:

I love jumpsuits, they're just as classy as dresses (look at the detail around the bust!) But they'll set you apart from the crowd.

This is a perfect way of looking pretty without being 'cutesy'

Utter class, I'd save this for a show-stopping occassion...

my free champagne bottle -yum yum!

ALSO check out the new Daisy Craver range at Warehouse. I literally crave-her (sorry, that was cheesy)
:-)
All black, studs, leather, but with a classic Warehouse style there's no need to worry you're gonna look all gothy and dark.
This dress is on my ultimate dress wish list:

The Regent

Now, I know food isn't exactly fashionable, but it's kinda lifestyle. So, this will only be a quick post. But whilst in Kensal Green the other day, I came across a little side street with a beautiful looking pub called The Regent.

I popped in for lunch and I genuinely have to say it's one of the nicest pubs I've ever been to. Reasonably priced, GORGEOUS FOOD, and so so individual. There was a giant bowl of popcorn on the bar as soon as you walk in (thumbs up), there was chalk writing and doodles all over the walls (not immature, I assure you) AND the furniture was ornate, grand, yet cosy.

(my food choices of the day, Nachos and Eton Mess - Yum!)

If you're ever in the area, I really recommend this place - www.theregentkensalgreen.com

these 2 pictures above are taken from the website which is given above

Rag & Bow

Some of you may have heard of Rag&Bow, I'll forgive you if a lot of you haven't. Rag&Bow is a "roaming vintage pop up stall" ran by a woman named Hazel Holtham. Last Saturday I attended her pop-up boutique in Kensal Rise, the place wasn't exactly large or the greatest vintage stall on Earth, but I don't think it claims to be. Hazel prides herself on finding fashion-forward (if you can call vintage forward) clothing at affordable prices. And boy, was my find an affordable one.

As I skimmed through the rails, a mid-calf length military green coat caught my eye, now I've seen one that is SENSATIONAL in River Island. But that's where the fantasy stops, because a student's loan cannot stretch to (I believe it's) £90. I will check that though as it's not actually on sale at the moment and different publications have it priced differently.

Anyway, I traipsed upstairs to don this magnificent coat, and it fits, like a glove. The price? £18. I know. Bargain. So on current trend with utility and midi-length, this coat isn't bulky nor so thin that it won't keep me warm.

Today I teamed it with my flat tan moccasins (£20 KG sale), black tights and a black ensemble of a long tee and bodycon mini underneath. A New Look tan satchel, New Look wooden beads and a Warehouse tan cuff helped to bring the look together. In order for me NOT to look like I was enjoying channelling 'Granny Chic', I left the coat open and belted it with a skinny tan belt from Primark (£1) so that it still gave me SOME kinda shape.

FMS launch

Last week saw the launch of the 7th edition of the genius magazine that is FMS. I was lucky enough to find out about the event, that took place at Punk in Soho. Live music, free drinks, Fashion Music Style. What a better way to spend your evening?
Punk in Soho is a rather lovely place, not too packed full of people but that was no problem as it made plenty of way for people to bust their moves on the dancefloor, appreciating the FIVE UNSIGNED acts that were featured in the magazine and played throughout the night. I would recommend Punk as a nightclub, it's not huge and the drinks aren't cheap (but where is in the capital?) The acts were: Daytona Lights, Brilliant Mind, Boy Mandeville, Babeshadow, and The Wild Mercury Sound.
I advise you to listen to these bands, the free CD we were provided with has a current magnificent spot in my CD player in my car :-)

As you can see I opted for a classic LBD on the night, with black cut-out shoe boots, and a SENSATIONAL vintage jacket in a blush pink, covered with sequins. I bought that from a vintage fair in Leeds for around £20, it's in perfect condition and the shape of the jacket is cut in such a flattering way, naturally nipping you in at the waist. And my necklace was a bargain at 8euros from a little shop in Zante, where I went for a girlie holiday this August.

Until next time -xx
